Australia's largest lender's online banking system has gone down, sparking frustration among customers.

Commonwealth Bank acknowledged the outage at 9.30pm today, about half an hour after reports started flooding on website tracker Downdetector.

"We're aware some customers may be encountering difficulties with some of our services right now," the bank said, in a statement posted online.
