A car belonging to former Western Australia Police Commissioner Karl O'Callaghan has allegedly been used as a getaway vehicle in a high-speed police chase.

Officers said two 16 year olds came unstuck in Karrinyup when they drove into a dead end.

Police pulled two teenage boys from the Mitsubishi Pajero as concerned residents watched from inside their homes.

A nearby resident named Sienna told 9News she saw "police officers everywhere, swarming driveways – everywhere".

"I was in shock about how many police were there," she said.

The vehicle was damaged when the teenage driver allegedly tried to squeeze between two cars during the pursuit. Both the driver and passenger were arrested.

Police say they first tried to stop the Pajero about 10pm on East Street in Maylands and soon abandoned the chase due to the car's dangerous driving.

A short time later, detectives spotted the Mitsubishi on Tonkin Highway in Redcliffe.

Officers monitored it from the air until it drove into a dead end on Spiderlily Mews in Karrinyup.

The alleged driver teen will face court next week charged with reckless and unlicensed driving and property damage.

His passenger was released without charge.
