A man has been charged with murder after an alleged stabbing near Newcastle.
Emergency services were called to a home on Kankool Way in Windale just before 4.30pm yesterday after an alleged assault.
A 40-year-old man was rushed to Belmont Hospital with multiple stab wounds to the chest and later died despite emergency surgery.

Police arrested a 21-year-old man on nearby Cherry Street in Windale around 5pm yesterday.
While police investigated the crime scene, the 40-year-old victim was transferred to John Hunter Hospital.
Despite attempts to save his life, the man died and the younger man was subsequently charged with murder.
The 21-year-old appeared before a court in Newcastle where he was denied bail.
He will face court again on April 3.
