The Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras will take a moment of silence at the start of the parade to honour Luke Davies and Jesse Baird, the organisers have announced.

The parade issued a statement this morning announcing a moment of silence in remembrance of the couple at the start of the march, led by Dykes on Bikes.

"We will take a moment to honour and remember Jesse Baird and Luke Davies, whose lives were tragically taken from us," Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras said.

"This moment of commemoration serves as a powerful reminder of the bonds that unite us and the memories of those we hold dear.

"As the Dykes on Bikes approach Taylor Square for their second pass—the heart of our Parade—they will come to a pause.

"This serves as a signal for all attendees to join in a moment of silence.

"It's an act of remembrance, giving us the chance to collectively reflect on the lives of Jesse and Luke and to stand together in solidarity."

Earlier this week, Davies' mother posted a photo of the pair to Facebook with no other comment.

Friends, family, colleagues and members of the LGBTQ+ community attended a vigil held at Green Park in Darlinghurst last night, in a celebration of Luke and Jesse's lives.

"Jesse would be so humbled that so many people showed up tonight, and I know that he's up there and he's looking down at us and he's saying, 'guys, stop being so dramatic, stand up and start dancing for me' because he loved a good dance," a colleague of Baird's told Weekend Today.

"He was so bold and beautiful and bright."

"A lot of us have been doing what we can to support one another and I've been, not surprised but delighted at how, much we've been able to support each other," another person attending the vigil said.

Qantas will have Davies' name written on one of their floats in the Mardi Gras parade tonight to pay tribute to the flight attendant.

Sydney MP Alex Greenwich attended the vigil.

"Last night was a beautiful vigil…loved ones of Luke and Jessie were joined by a lot of people from the Sydney and LGBT community to come together to celebrate their life," Greenwich said.

"It was a solemn celebration, but it showed the importance of our community coming together and looking after each other."
