A Perth doctor accused of assaulting his three-week-old baby has been granted bail.
The emergency department doctor in his 30s faced court today charged with aggravated assault causing bodily harm.
The court heard the father, who can’t be identified for legal reasons, came home from night shift early in the morning.
As he made breakfast and his wife showered, the couple’s newborn started fussing, police say.
It’s alleged the man pressed on the baby’s abdomen and the infant suffered a fractured rib and bruising.
The court heard the man told his partner and the baby was taken to hospital and authorities alerted.
The man didn’t speak to media as left court today.
His bail conditions included surrendering his passport and only speaking to his wife and older child over the phone.
He’s due to face court again next month.
