Teenager drowns near Queensland Border in holiday tragedy

A 17-year-old boy has died after jumping into water around Hastings Point, near the Queensland border with New South Wales.

Emergency services rushed to the scene around 4.30pm after reports that a teenager had jumped off a bridge over Cudgera creek and disappeared under the water.

Emergency services were told after the boy jumped into the water he had briefly resurfaced, then disappeared under the water.

It's understood with the tide was going out and the water was shallow.

A rescue helicopter was dispatched with locals assisting in the search.

Bridge drowning

Locals spotted the boy's body, which was retrieved but despite paramedics' best efforts, the teen was unable to be revived.

Police believe the boy's death was a case of misadventure.
