A father picking up medicine, with his 18-month-old son in his arms, was allegedly attacked by a knife-wielding man on Victoria's surf coast.

CCTV footage shows the moment a man allegedly attacked customers in the store, before he was arrested by police.

According to one witness, the father "kept saying 'I dont know this guy, I've done nothing'".

"I was just concerned for the little boy," pharmacy dispensary technician Jo Saliaris said.

CCTV obtained by 9News shows the man wearing a puffer jacket allegedly lunge towards several customers including a man holding a young child.

Pharmacy assistant Sally Irwin said the business was busy at the time of the incident and staff feared the worst after a parting threat from the man.

"He said 'I'm coming back to get you all' so we shut the doors as quick as we could and someone said he was on the outside trying to get back in," she said.

"There were a lot of the people inside the pharmacy at the time and everyone was shocked."

Saliaris echoed a similar sentiment.

"We didn't know when he said he was going to come back if he was coming back with a gun," she said.

The man, aged in his 50s, ran from the scene before entering a busy Woolworths and later bolting into a nearby park before being being arrested a short time later at a home. He has been taken to hospital for assessment.

Victoria Police told 9News the offender had also stabbed someone on Zeally Bay Road before entering the pharmacy about 10.45am today.

The man injured only suffered minor injuries and was assessed by paramedics at the scene.

No customers or staff were seriously injured by the man, who Saliaris and Irwin say is a regular at the pharmacy.

Investigations are ongoing.
