The search for the song of the summer is ongoing. Four months after the year started, the music industry is yet to produce a worldwide hit single – we have the exploits Ayra Starr’s ‘Commas’ is doing on the worldwide charts – However, by this time last year, Davido had released ‘Timeless’ with hit singles like Kante, Feel, and Unavailable. Odumodublvck’s ‘Declan Rice’ was making waves in the football sphere, BNXN’s ‘Gwagwalada’ was the song on the streets, and Asake’s ‘2:30’ was the party banger.
Four months into the year, we barely have two worldwide hit singles. However, there is promise. From Tems announcing that her debut album is ready to Fireboy officially declaring that he has started his album rollout, we are looking at seven possible albums that will take the Nigerian music industry from its drought of hits.
Here are some of the most anticipated albums of the year.
Tems
Release Date: May 2024
A Grammy win and six years after her debut in the industry, Tems announced that she’ll be releasing her highly anticipated debut album. The album titled ‘Born In The Wild’ is slated for release in May. Although she’s yet to confirm her tracklist, the album is predicted to include ‘Not An Angel,’ ‘Me & U’ and ‘Love Me Jeje,’ a single that samples Seyi Sodimu’s 1997 hit single, which she previewed during her Coachella performance.
Previously, Tems had released two EP’s ‘For Broken Ears’ and ‘If Orange Was A Place.’
Davido

During a live stream with popular streamer Kai Cenat, Davido disclosed that he had finished recording his fifth studio album, which is almost a year after the release of his Grammy-nominated album ‘Timeless.’ The album is expected to include 15 tracks with a reported six guest appearances. However, the music star has yet to unveil the release date or tracklist of the forthcoming album.
Ayra Starr
Release Date: May 2024
Starting the year out with the release of ‘Commas,’ a single, which is currently the most streamed Nigerian song of 2024 on Spotify, the music star disclosed in an interview with Capital Xtra that she will be releasing her sophomore album, ‘The Year I Turned 21′ in 2024. During her interview, Ayra disclosed that her album is “very evolved. It’s just me talking about the journey of being a 21-year-old and how 21 is just a state of mind. I want everybody that listens to it no matter your age to feel 21.”
In anticipation of the album, she confirmed collaborations with Asake, Giveon, Coco Jones, Anitta and Seyi Vibez. She has also previewed an unreleased single off the upcoming album at a live session with music collective Aprtment Life. She is slated to release her album in May.
Fireboy DML

In the past few months, Fireboy’s interviews have contributed to the outrage music lovers and critics have felt over genre specification. His forthcoming album, which he disclosed would drop later in the year, is his opportunity to explain to his audience what his ‘Afro-Life’ genre is about.
The album will be his fourth studio album, after his last album, Playboy, which generated mixed reactions. It’s his chance to show that he’s still capable of creating a cohesive and lyrically loaded album. Although the music star has hinted at starting his album rollout, he has yet to share when the album will be released.
Wizkid
Release Date: TBA
Four months after the release of his EP, Soundman 2, the multi-award winning artist announced that his sixth studio album is in the works and it will be titled ‘Morayo.’ The album does not only allow us to get a glimpse of Wizkid’s sound evolution, but it’s also an album he said is dedicated to his late mum, Jane Dolapo Balogun, who passed away in August 2023.
With teased collaborations with artistes like Shallipopi and Justin Bieber, Wizkid promises that the album is a departure from his familiar sound. However, he is yet to unveil the album’s release date.
Ajebo Hustlers

After releasing what most consider ‘the best tracklist’ announcement in recent memory, the anticipation for the Ajebo Hustlers album has increased. The duo is set to feature Blaqbonez, Odumodublvck, Raebel, Zlatan, Jeriq, Magixx, Sarkodie and King Promise on the second instalment of their Bad Boy Etiquette project.
The duo with rapper Knowledge and singer Piego released Bad Boy Etiquette 101 in December 2022, and over a year later, they’ll be releasing Bad Boy Etiquette 102: Continuous Assessment. In the usual Ajebo Hustlers style, a brilliant blend of their southern heritage with modern genres is expected.
Victony

Almost two years after the release of his debut album, ‘Outlaw,’ Victony is gearing up for the release of a new project he has titled ‘Stubborn.’ The album, which he has teased non-stop for months is predicted to be released later in the year. Following the release of new concept images for the forthcoming project, the music star hints at touching the subject of how he survived a ghastly accident in 2021.
In a series of posts on X, he said, “I spent the past year warming up to this, perfecting this craft while moving towards self-discovery. This is Me. This next project is my true story. I’m glad.”
