FilmOne Entertainment has released its Nigerian Box Office Year Book of 2023 with Funke Akindele ranking atop the list of top ten highest-grossing Nollywood actors for her film, ‘A Tribe Called Judah.’
The independent film distribution and production company which unveiled the yearbook on Monday, May 20, 2024, capped her overall gross between 2023 – March 31, 2024, at over N1.4 billion.
According to the report, the Nigerian cinema industry recorded N2.25 billion in revenue from ticket sales in the first quarter (Q1) of 2024, reflecting a 46% increase in box office revenues as opposed to the N1.5 billion generated in the first quarter (Q1) of 2023.
The dominance of Nollywood films, particularly ‘A Tribe Called Judah,’ contributed to this increase as the billion naira grossing film was responsible for 27% of the Q1 overall revenue.
Following the success of A Tribe Called Judah, Adeoluwa Owu, Funke Akindele, Timini Egbuson and many more grossed over 1 billion naira in their respective fields in Nollywood. Timini was named Nollywood’s highest-grossing actor, and Adeoluwa Owu, Nollywood’s highest-grossing director.
