Jigawa State Governor, Malam Umar Namadi, has taken swift action to prevent flooding in the state this year.
According to a statement released by his Senior Special Assistant on Media Affairs, Hajiya Zainab Shua’aibu Rabo Ringim, the governor gave the directive during a meeting with the Commissioner of Environment, Dr. Nura Ibrahim, and other ministry officials.
Namadi emphasized the need for urgent measures to address the annual flooding menace, which poses a significant threat to the lives and properties of citizens.
“To this end, he ordered the immediate relocation of necessary materials for the embankment of frontline areas across the state.”
“A nine-member committee has been established to engage with local communities and solicit their support and cooperation in the flood mitigation efforts.” the statement added.
According to Dr. Nura Ibrahim, Commissioner of Environment, officials from the ministry have conducted an assessment visit to identify areas that require attention to prevent flooding.
Earlier, the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Dr. Abdullahi Namadi, revealed that collaboration with officials from Yobe State has been established to explore embankment options along the Jigawa State corridor.
