It was Breath of Life’s night at the tenth edition of the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCAs) as they swept the awards for the performance categories. Genoveva Umeh won the Best Supporting Actress category. For her, the win means that ‘young people can do anything they set their mind to.’
“I came into Nigeria 2018 hoping to join an industry I know nothing about, hoping to be a part of the industry where young people are included, and for that to happen and for this award to be so, the future is really bright for Nollywood,” she told Netng.
Executively produced by BB Sasore and Derin Adeyokunnu, Breath of Life tells the story of a man, Timi (Wale Ojo), struggling with a loss of purpose after a life-changing experience only to encounter a young man, Elijah (Chimezie Imo), who changes the course of his life.
The actress who catapulted into the spotlight with her role in Netflix’s Blood Sisters has since featured in some of Nollywood’s highly acclaimed films, including her recent feature, Breath of Life, which earned five awards at the 10th AMVCAs.
Breath of Life won the awards for Best Lead Actor, Best Supporting Actor, Best Supporting Actress, Best Director, and Best Movie. Also, Chimezie Imo, one of the key cast in the film, won the AMVCA 10 Trailblazer Award.
