Perth Airport is poised to welcome millions of travellers annually thanks to a landmark investment into its terminal facilities.

The $5 billion agreement between Qantas and Perth Airport will include a newly constructed runway and terminal, marking the largest-ever private infrastructure development in Perth.

The deal will see Qantas and Jetstar relocate all services to a new terminal, that will open by 2031.

The investment will also include two multi-storey car parks, major access roadworks, and the airport's first hotel.

Western Australian Premier Roger Cook said the announcement was a major tourism boost.

"By opening up new flight routes and adding millions of extra passenger seats each year, we're positioning WA as a major tourist destination in the region," he said.

"It will turn Perth Airport into a world-class travel hub for visitors and for Western Australians, and put Perth onto the world stage for travellers."

Qantas and Jetstar said the move would add 4.4 million seats to and from Perth each year by the time the new terminal opens.

It's expected to give travellers better access to destinations including Asia, Africa, India and Europe.

"This is a special moment in the history of aviation in Western Australia as this agreement will unlock the future for both Perth Airport and Qantas," Perth Airport chief executive Jason Waters said.

"Qantas has some ambitious growth plans for its operations in Perth and we are thrilled to have the opportunity to push ahead together to realise this potential.

"Western Australians will now see the largest-ever private investment in an infrastructure development in Perth – a once-in-a-lifetime investment program that will completely change the face of Perth Airport over the next decade."

The agreement resolves all outstanding commercial issues in dispute between Perth Airport and Qantas.
