SKATE WORLD: Local photographer Lexi Pendzich has been fascinated with skateboard culture since she was a teen, from its fashion and esthetics to its sick moves. “Skate culture is an empowering space defined by people exploring the potential of the urban domain through their sport,” she explains, “through a sense of togetherness and elevating each other.”
Details: Through Aug. 3 at Art Gallery of St. Albert’s Staircase (19 Perron St.), no charge.
Springtime: Little rascal Smokey Johnson is well known for both his visual art and music. Here, he presents a perfectly maudlin reaction to the unearthing of decaying objects and memories we call spring with a new single and video made by emerging director and The Last of Us location scout Ryan Leedu, with an assist by photographic wunderkind Laura La France.
“This song is a simple admission of what a changing season in a northern city feels like for me,” says Johnson. “If the listener can relate, I feel both pity and gratitude for them.
“If you can’t relate, rejoice! And go enjoy your life somewhere else.”
