Kaduna state governor,  Uba Sani has set up a machinery in motion to ensure the revival of the State Water Corporation to address the challenges potable drinking water facing resident.
Ibrahim Soba  disclosed this at a  a press conference on Tuesday in Kaduna.
He said between November and December 2023, the government spent over N600 million  to  provide succour to the people following the restructuring of the water corporation.

Soba lamented that upon assumption of office in 2023  the administration met a lot of challenges, saying the government is on the top of the game to ensure issues of water scarcity is address.
The commissioner noted that  about $200 million had  been committed to the sector by previous administration, yet the issue of water supply has not been tackled.

Soba said, “We realised as at the time we came, the capacity utilization of our facilities was less than 8 per cent.
“So it was a very poor performance with all the investment in the sector.
“Our revenue collection, our billing system, our connection system, the plant and the whole three to four components of the sector were not working.
“When you go to the plant, that is where we get the water production component, very poor performance, when you get down to the transmission…”
He said  the whole structure was being remodeled to address the challenges.

He said there are other interventions coming up from the federal ministry of water  resources which will go along way in ameliorating the problems.
He said the state  government is determined also  to ensure the challenges facing  the whole water system, especially the urban water supply system is resolved.
According to the Commissioner, the new management of Kaduna  State Water Corporation (KADSWAC) is doing well.

“They are trying to undo some damages that were done by the urban renewable which took place some three or four years back where a lot of pipes were vandalized and that is why some areas that used to have water, no longer have access to the supply of water.

“So going forward, we are hopeful that some of these things will be revived and we are going to see some level of progress.
“Already, some areas have started  seeing some progress after our  intervention last year.
“I can assure the public that we have almost finished all the strategies and the  implementation will soon commence.”
