Renowned British comedian and poet John Hegley is bringing his highly anticipated An American in Luton show to Preston.
With a career spanning decades and a reputation as a national treasure, Hegley will share his unique blend of wit, humour and heartfelt poetry when he performs at The Ferret on Wednesday 10 July.
For years, John Hegley has been a fixture on British television screens, with appearances on popular programmes such as Never Mind the Buzzcocks. This, along with his sold-out performances at prestigious venues like the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, has earned Hegley a devoted following and widespread acclaim for his comedic genius and poetic prowess.
Now, Hegley is taking his talents on the road with the An American in Luton tour, described as a rollicking journey into his eccentric and eclectic world.

Hegley has been a regular on BBC television and radio for the past 40 years. He led two John Peel sessions with his band The Popticians on BBC Radio 1 in 1983 and 1984 and hosted the Border TV poetry series Word of Mouth in 1989. He was a Perrier Comedy Award nominee at Edinburgh Festival Fringe in the same year.
There were three series of Hearing with Hegley on BBC Radio 4 between 1996 and 2000. Hegley was also the BBC Online poet in residence 1999. In 2010 he worked with Company Paradiso on the show Warning, May Contain Nuts challenging stigmas around mental illness.
Hegley was Keats House poet in residence in 2012. In 2019 Arts Council England funded his touring collaborative project Putting You in the Picture where he worked with fellow poets to take children to art galleries to explore and respond to art works with drawing, writing and cut-out paper characters.
