The state’s application system crashed earlier this month, shortly after the program launched, per StarTribune.
Now, the state’s getting back into gear with an official relaunch.
The program has set aside $2 million dollars to cover about 50% to 75% of the cost of an e-bike.
Bikes that use batteries can cost upwards of $2,000 — though the program is limited to payouts of $1,500.
The application portal will reopen on July 2 at 11:00 a.m. local time.
HOW TO QUALIFY
Minnesota set aside money for e-bikes through the fiscal years of 2024 and 2025.
However, there are some rules to qualify.
Your bike must be from a qualified vendor.
The state has a list of approved bike sellers online.
“We expect the application window to be brief, as only around 10,000 applications will be accepted,” the state said. “When this limit is reached, the rebate application will close.”
Those who qualify will receive a certificate. The amount will vary based on your income.
That certificate must be used within two months, or else it will expire.
Only some bikes can qualify, too — any e-bike with a motor using more than 750 watts of power does not qualify.
Mopeds and scooters are also ineligible.
Why a bike rebate?
Bikes, including e-bikes, have become a climate solution.
In many urban areas, bikes have become a popular mode of transportation.
Now, Minnesota will pay for individuals to buy pricey e-bikes.

TAKE A BIKE
Cycling, including electric bikes, is a low-energy way to get around, especially in urban areas.
Governments have begun incentivizing bike use to cut down on carbon emissions associated with gas cars.
Money is also available for other green initiatives.
Many states offer discounts to those who install solar panels on their properties.
Texas residents, for example, can qualify for thousands depending on their energy company.
The IRS has rebates available for those looking into electric cars.
