Nigerian dancehall star Ruger has opened up on why he resolved his long-standing feud with fellow artist BNXN. The two musicians were considered rivals and were known to exchange words on social media, particularly X before they collaborated on a joint album ‘RnB’ earlier this year.

The beef between Ruger and BNXN, formerly known as Buju, was a hot topic in the music industry for about two years. Michael Adebayo Olayinka, also known as Ruger, is best known for his songs “Bounce,” “Asiwaju,” and “Dior.” Daniel Benson, popularly known as BNXN has worked with notable artists such as Wizkid, Headie One, Burna Boy, and Popcaan. Bnxn’s achievements include a Grammy nomination and a Soundcity MVP Award for “Best Collaboration” for his single “Finesse.”

Ruger, in an interview with Beats FM, said the conflict was primarily fueled by fan comparisons, which he acknowledges can be both a source of motivation and division.

“Comparison is a killer of joy, but it’s necessary for the game. This is what is entertaining these people. The arguments and all that,” Ruger shared during the interview.

Despite the tension, Ruger and BNXN decided to focus on their shared passion for music. “We looked beyond that (the comparisons) and asked, ‘How can we push good music together?’ Because there’s a lot of distractions now in the music space. Some people are releasing things that are not good, but they are using money to push it and it’s flying,” Ruger explained, referencing their collaborative EP ‘RnB’.

‘RnB’, has been met with positive reception following the release of the first single in February, ‘Romeo Must Die,’ charting at Number 11 on the Billboard US Afrobeats Songs Chart. The duo revealed to Billboard that the album was recorded and completed in three days.

Ruger’s latest singles, ‘Luv Again’ and ‘Make Way’, are already creating a buzz.

He describes ‘Luv Again’ as a reflection of his willingness to love anew, though he remains flexible in his approach to relationships. On a personal note, he revealed that while he finds it easy to fall in love, he is currently single and focused on his upcoming European tour this summer.
