Fisherman allegedly stabbed to death on pier in Victoria

Homicide detectives are investigating after a 45-year-old man from Cranbourne North was allegedly fatally stabbed while fishing.

A 36-year-old man was arrested after the 45-year-old was found dead at Frankston Pier, a popular swimming and fishing spot in south-east Melbourne.

Police rushed to Frankston Pier off Pier Promenade about 6am today after receiving reports a man was being assaulted.

They arrived to find the 45-year-old injured and unresponsive on the pier. He died at the scene.

The 36-year-old man, was found near the scene, is currently being questioned by police as the area was blocked off and a crime scene was established.

It is understood the man who was arrested has no fixed address.

Windy conditions at the pier were seen whipping up waves, with police concerned the crime scene could be contaminated.

Homicide detectives are investigating and are not looking for anyone else in relation to the man’s death.

“It is also believed the parties involved were not known to one another,” police said.

Large sections of the Frankston foreshore remain cordoned off from the public.
