A 63-year-old grandmother has told how she fought off a would-be car thief in Melbourne.
Soumaya Zakari said she was sitting inside a luxury 4WD with her grandchild when a man attempted to steal the car, while her daughter-in-law ducked into the post office to lodge a passport application in Laverton last week.
"I (was) screaming but he still wanted to steal the car, that's why I punched him," she told 9News.

"I'm scared but not chicken," she said.
Her daughter-in-law Tamara Afaneh said her child had just fallen asleep when the ordeal occurred.
She told 9News she was thankful Zakari was able to defend her child.
"(It's) very sick. It's just replaying in my head imagine he took the car. What if he hurt her what if he killed her?"

He fled in a stolen car, with the getaway driver seen dancing to rap music as he drove.
Three men aged 22, 22 and 21 were later arrested in Broadmeadows.
They've all been charged with serious offences including home invasion, assault and making threats to kill.
They were all remanded in custody.
