Autopsy results shed new light on the tragic death of Nigerian singer Mohbad, revealing a possible drug reaction as the cause of his demise.
According to the report obtained by TheCable Lifestyle, the autopsy conducted at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH) showed that Mohbad had an injury on his right forearm and his body was exhumed with moderate to severe decomposition.
While the report stated that “no significant gross finding” could be attributed to the singer’s death, the toxicology test revealed the presence of Diphenhydramine, an anti-histamine, in his system.
However, the autopsy report suggested that there is a possibility of drug reaction in view of any significant post-mortem and toxicology findings.
“The possibility of a fatal anaphylactic shock (drug reaction) could be considered in view of the absence of any significant post mortem and toxicology findings,” the report stated.
Mohbad died on September 12, 2023, and was hurriedly buried by the family, a move that sparked outrage across the country. As controversies surrounding his death rages, the police set up a 19-member committee to carry out an investigation which included exhumation, autopsy, witnesses’ statements and many more.
Eight months later, the report noted that the burial of Mohbad on the second day after his death prevented further investigation into the cause of his death.
“Unfortunately, this was prevented or made impossible by the burial of the deceased on the second day,” the report stated.
Mohbad’s death sent shockwaves through the Nigerian music industry, with fans and colleagues paying tribute to the late singer.
The autopsy report provides some answers, but also raises further questions about the circumstances surrounding his death.
