The opening of a housing association’s second extra-care scheme in the city has been marked with the welcoming of its first resident.

The Atrium, now open on Miller Road in Ribbleton, offers independent living for over 60s. Community Gateway Assocation’s first site in Preston was The Courtyards in Ingol.

Daphne, who was already a CGA tenant, has now moved into The Atrium as of the start of June.

The development is 61 apartments, a bistro, a salon, a lounge and wellbeing and activity rooms. The aim is to provide independence with 24-hour care and support if it is required.

Fiona Fisher, head of housing for Community Gateway, said: “We know that people want to continue to live independently and have their own space as they get older. The Atrium allows them to do just that, spacious, modern, safe and secure with opportunities to make friends and get more involved in activities if you want to.

“The Atrium is such a vibrant and welcoming building and it’s great to see people moving in and enjoying the fantastic facilities. I know they’ll love living here as much as the public will enjoy visiting to sample the bistro or the hair and beauty rooms.”
