LONDON — Sometimes the hardest thing is letting your friends down.

Nigel Farage, who stunned Westminster on Monday as he announced he will return to frontline politics, admitted the whole plan will make his efforts to support Donald Trump’s U.S. presidential campaign that bit harder.

The Brexit campaigner is making a comeback as leader of the right-wing Reform UK party.

He’ll make a fresh run for parliament in the seat of Clacton, and is looking to make life difficult for the ailing Conservatives in a general election on July 4.

“They’ve spent most of the last five years fighting each other rather than standing up and fighting for the interests of this country,” Farage said of the Tories as he announced his run.

Just days ago Farage ruled out running for parliament — and vowed to instead “help with the grassroots campaign” to get Trump elected stateside.

But his new plan to represent a British parliamentary seat demands weekly surgeries and dealing with local constituents — a far cry from the high-octane U.S. campaigns.

“Clearly, if I’m elected the MP for Clacton, and I’m there every Friday … it’ll become more difficult but not impossible,” Farage told reporters at his announcement Monday when pressed on whether he could still assist Trump.

Farage, who has made previous unsuccessful runs for the British parliament, also confirmed he had not consulted the former president for his advice on whether he should make a U.K. comeback.

“The Donald’s got other things to be dealing with just at this moment in time,” Farage said. “He’s been rather busy, including joining TikTok.”

Farage and Trump have a storied history. He was the first U.K. politician to meet Trump after the latter’s U.S. election victory in 2016 and has interviewed him on numerous occasions.

The Brexit campaigner previously said he “can’t remember” whether Trump had offered him a job if he returns to the White House.

He’s previously mooted being the U.K.’s ambassador in Washington to bridge relations between a Trump administration and a Labour government in London, though this is extremely unlikely to happen.
