An event, held in Chorley, saw more than 100 Asian women coming together to celebrate the saree.

The Saree-Speak is part of a worldwide movement started by Vini Tondon in 2016 to encourage women to wear the traditional dress.

The Preston celebration was organised by Barkha Rani who lives in the city. It was the fourth Saree event in Preston, with the first being held in 2019.

The evening was ‘filled with laughter and fun,’ with over 125 women in attendance to celebrate the versatilely of the garment.

This year the event was on 8 June at The Park Hall Hotel in Chorley. There was food, drinks, music, dancing and a fashion show.

Every year sees a different time for the event. This year’s theme was retro, inspired by the saying ‘old is gold’.

The ladies experimented with different drapes, showcased their favourite weaves and shared stories.

Barkha said: “By having these events these ladies bring the Saree to the forefront not just for themselves but also to spark curiosity about the attire in the younger generation.”
