The search for a surfer who went missing off the coast of a Western Australia beach has been suspended.
WA Police were told that a surfer had gone missing from Surfers Point in Prevelly at 4.35pm on Friday.
The male surfer in his 40s was spotted in the water by a second surfer who noticed he needed assistance, however, rough conditions prohibited him from helping.
Emergency services attended the scene and began a search of the water and beach.
Despite searching the scene, the surfer was not able to be located before the search was suspended.
Surfers Point was closed and members of the public have been advised to avoid the area.
“It is important to remember surfing is a high-risk sport and it’s particularly an issue when people go out late in the afternoon, in challenging weather”, Emergency Services Minister Stephen Dawson said.
The beach is a popular location for surfers in the Margaret River region.
