If there’s one thing that’s clear from the first season of “House of the Dragon,” it’s that the Targaryens really know how to take family drama to the next level. We’re talking about incest, power struggles, backstabbing, the whole nine yards!

Thanks to Showmax, fans in Africa were able to watch the first season and are gearing up to watch the second season which flies express from flies express to Showmax and M-Net from 17 June 2024.

As we countdown to what promises to be an epic second season, let’s dive into the web of relationships that is at the heart of this fantasy series.

1. Princess Rhaenyra and her former bestie-turned-rival, Alicent Hightower:

These two go from being super tight as kids to being at each other’s throats as adults, all because of the Iron Throne. Rhaenyra is the rightful heir, but Alicent’s wedding to Rhaenyra’s dad, King Viserys, complicates things in a major way.

I don’t know about you, but I felt so bad watching these two drift apart. You can’t help but wonder how the story would be if they’d been able to maintain that friendship. Would the whole Targaryen civil war have been averted? It’s a heartbreaking “what if” to ponder. With their rivalry escalating and the Targaryen civil war kicking off in Season 2, I’m dying to know – will they ever reconcile, or is this friendship doomed for good?

2. Rhaenyra’s relationship with her uncle, Daemon Targaryen:

Talk about a spicy one. These two have a chemistry that equals part-captivating and slightly uncomfortable. I mean, the incest thing is a lot to unpack, but you can’t deny the sparks flying between them.

I found myself rooting for Rhaenyra and Daemon, even though I knew deep down it was probably a terrible idea. There’s just something about their rebellious natures and defiance of convention that makes them a weirdly compelling pair. But of course, as we all know, this is the Targaryen family we’re talking about – and you just know that kind of relationship is bound to end in disaster.

3. King Viserys:

Bless his heart. The guy was just trying his best to hold his family together and maintain the peace, but it was a losing battle. Between his rocky marriage to Alicent and the constant tension between his kids, Viserys was stuck in the middle of a powder keg that was about to explode.

You couldn’t help but feel for him, even though he’d made some questionable decisions along the way. He was trying his hardest, but when you’ve got a bunch of power-hungry Targaryens in the mix, it’s only a matter of time before things go up in flames.

I’m on the edge of my seat to see how the chaos unfolds.

So, there you have it – the messy, complicated, and downright juicy relationships that are the beating heart of “House of the Dragon” Season 1.

If you’re anything like me, you’re probably already counting down the days until the next season drops, just to see how this Targaryen tornado is going to play out. In the meantime, you can binge-watch the entire first season on Showmax to refresh your memory.
