FIRST Take analyst Shannon Sharpe isn’t happy with the Los Angeles Lakers’ coaching offer to Dan Hurley.
The Lakers reportedly offered Hurley a six year, $70 million deal to coach the team which he turned down.

According to Sharpe, Hurley likely turned down the deal because there wasn’t enough money attached.
“It wasn’t the timing, it was the money,” Sharpe said.
“If you have a job, for another job to get you to leave, you’re gonna have to make me an offer I can’t refuse.
“This was a very refuseable offer.”
Sharpe said being the sixth-highest paid coach wasn’t a good enough offer for Hurley, and the money should have been higher.
“You’re gonna make him the sixth-highest paid?” Sharpe said.
“He has a job, how to I get his wife to say ‘Babe, we can’t turn this down. This is life altering money.’
“I’ll tell you what, how about six years, $80 million. How about six years, $90 million.
“I know Steve Kerr is making 17 and a half, but the Warriors didn’t want him to leave so it was easy for him to stay.”
Sharpe cited the fact that the Lakers tried to sway a college coach out of the NCAA 20 years ago, and only offered him a little less than Hurley’s offer.
“If you want someone to leave the current job that they’re in you’ve got to make them an offer they can’t refuse,” Sharpe said.
“You gonna make the man a $11.5 million offer? You offered Coach K $8 million in 2004. So 20 years later you’re only going up $3 million?”
Sharpe’s biggest concern was that the Lakers are trying to be too hands on and need to let their coach have some free will.
“Go ahead, give somebody the job, let them choose their staff, and pay them,” Sharpe said.
“You keep thinking, ‘We’re the Lakers,’ it’s the same way Jerry Jones thinks ‘This is the Cowboys.’

“This was the right decision for Dan Hurley considering what the Lakers offered.”
NBA fans agreed with Sharpe’s take, saying Hurley was lowballed by the Lakers.
“Truth, he was low balled,” one fan said.
“I honestly just didn’t see him leaving UConn for this situation,” another fan said.
“Everything is about money for these guys,” a third fan said.
