A three-year-old boy was rushed to hospital after he was hit by a car in Sydney's west.

Emergency services responded to reports that the toddler was struck by a car on Greenbank Drive in Blacktown just before 12pm today.

NSW Ambulance paramedics called for a CareFlight helicopter, which dispatched a specialist doctor to the scene to provide an intensive level of treatment for the child.

The CareFlight helicopter arrived at the scene within five minutes of being dispatched, a CareFlight spokesperson said.

The specialist doctor and the helicopter's quick intervention "may well have saved the child's life," the spokesperson said.

The boy was then driven to Westmead Children's Hospital with the specialist doctor on board.

The toddler is now in a stable condition with non-life-threatening injuries.

Police established a crime scene and the car, a Honda Accord, was seized for mechanical examination.

The 22-year-old male driver was taken to hospital for mandatory testing.

Investigations into the incident are ongoing.
