Organ donation is a special cause for Police Commissioner Grant Stevens and wife Emma.

They donated son Charlie's organs after he was killed in a hit-run crash.

The 18-year-old had previously made his wishes known.

"Charlie has made a difference in the lives of seven different people and that's something we are grateful for," Stevens said.

In South Australia, 73 per cent of adults are registered organ donors.

The process is as easy as giving consent when getting a driver licence.

"Tick the box and then go home and have that one time chat over the dinner table," Moodie said.

"It lets people know if it did happen you'd like to help others through organ donation."
