Three top-ranking officers of the Nigeria Police Force attached to the Jigawa State command reportedly died recently due to various health issues.
The Jigawa Police Command Public Relations Officer, DSP Lawan Shiisu, confirmed the tragic incident to journalists in Dutse, the state capital, on Monday.
Shiisu revealed that the officers succumbed to their illnesses between June 22 and July 5.
He mentioned that SP Salisu Salisu-Mudi, a member of the Patrol and Guard team from Babura Division, passed away at the Federal Medical Centre, Katsina on June 22.
Additionally, he stated that ASP Asabe Muhammad, who served as the second-in-command for the Gender Desk Office of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), died on Wednesday.
He also noted that the command experienced the loss of the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) for Yankwaahi Division, CSP Muhammad Salihu-Koko, who died on Friday.
Shiisu expressed his condolences to the families and friends of the fallen officers and prayed for their souls’ peace.
In other news, a graduate of Moshood Abiola Polytechnic in Ogun State who worked as a gambling agent has been reportedly shot dead allegedly by a police officer in the Imala region of Abeokuta, the capital of the state.
The Ogun State Police Command spokesperson, Omolola Odutola, has confirmed the tragic incident involving the middle-aged individual.
According to Odutola, everyone involved in the tragic incident has been summoned for questioning as part of the inquiry.
Naija News learnt that the deceased, Anuoluwapo, ran a Bet9ja outlet near a well-known hotel in the vicinity and was about to close for the day when he was fatally shot.
There were also claims that the police officers involved were under the influence of alcohol before one of them fired the fatal shot.
Another account from a witness indicated that the officers were conducting a search or pursuing a suspect when they accidentally killed Anuoluwapo, who was known by the nickname Pepe.
It was also noted that the officers quickly fled into the hotel and requested additional support to help them get away from the crime scene.
The witnesses also shared that the officers and the reinforcements intermittently fired their weapons to facilitate their escape.
