First Take host Molly Qerim began her summer break on Monday as Smith revealed on the same day that he and co-star Shannon Sharpe would be on vacation from Tuesday onward.

“Molly beat us by a day,” he joked.

The fiery personality Russo appeared on his usual Wednesday duties on the show, and he was tasked with delivering a cold open.

Russo mocked Stephen A.’s absence on First Take and hinted about the next time the ESPN star will be back on the program.

“We are not gonna see you know who until the NBA tips off in October,” Russo said.

“So Draymond Green, get used to it.

“On this show for the next three months, it’s yours truly.

Russo also joked that he “will be the executive producer” of First Take.

After introducing the guests on Wednesday’s show, Russo comically fumbled the name of First Take.

“As Stevie A. says, First House — what’s the show called!? — First Take in the house,” he said while twirling his finger in the air.

NBA analyst Kendrick Perkins, broadcaster Brian Custer, and ESPN Radio’s Chris Carlin also joined the show.

Russo handled hosting duties as Christine Williamson handled the task the day before.

First Take has enjoyed stellar ratings since Sharpe signed on to be a star on the show last September.

First Take recently celebrated its 21st month of consecutive viewer growth.

Smith’s absences come as the ESPN star is reportedly looking for a payday for his next contract[/caption]

In April, First Take posted a 12 percent increase year-over-year, with an average of 482,000 viewers, according to ESPN PR.

Qerim and Stephen A. have been alongside each other on the show since 2015.

The latter has reportedly angled for a new contract.

Smith’s deal with ESPN runs until the end of 2025.

The 56-year-old is reportedly eyeing a $25 million pay day for his next contract.
