Gabriel Attal’s role as French prime minister may be uncertain but he could have a future in journalism after managing to break the news that pop megastar Lady Gaga is engaged.
While watching the Olympic swimming, Attal congratulated the American singer on her “stunning performance” during the opening ceremony, and she introduced her long-term boyfriend Michael Polansky as “Michael, my fiancé,” according to a video Attal posted on Sunday night on social media.
The American singer has been in Paris for several days after performing the cabaret anthem “Mon Truc en Plumes” (“My feathery thing”) by Zizi Jeanmaire on the banks of the Seine on Friday.
Lady Gaga has not commented publicly on the engagement. Polansky, a tech entrepreneur, and the pop star have been dating for at least four years, according to public posts on social media.
Attal has been putting on a Poker Face since French politics was thrown into chaos when Emmanuel Macron called a snap election. The Bad Romance between political tribes that followed means Attal will serve as head of a caretaker government until a new prime minister is appointed.
A senior French official from Attal’s team, who asked to remain anonymous when discussing international pop news, said his boss was operating “on all fronts.”
