French President Emmanuel Macron decided to retain Prime Minister Gabriel Attal following parliamentary elections where the government’s coalition lost its status as the dominant party to the left in a hung parliament.
In a statement, Macron’s office announced, “The President has requested Gabriel Attal to continue serving as prime minister temporarily to maintain the country’s stability.”
Attal had indicated earlier on Sunday his intention to submit his resignation, following French political protocol, but also expressed readiness to stay on in a caretaker capacity longer, leaving the final decision to the president.
