The shooter has since been identified as 20-year-old Thomas Crooks.

Crooks was shot dead just moments after he fired bullets at Trump in an assassination attempt, killing Comperatore and critically injuring two others in the crowd in Butler, Pennsylvania.

Trump dove behind the podium and grabbed his face and ear as he was swarmed by the Secret Service.

He pumped his fist as he was ushered off stage, and later shared that the bullet grazed his right ear.

In the same statement, Trump also offered his condolences to those killed and injured in the shooting.

Tragically, Comperatore left behind a wife and two children.

He is now being honored at the Buffalo Township Volunteer Fire Company, where his uniform is displayed on one of the trucks.

Pictures of the father-of-two are hung around the fire station in his honor.

Comperatore’s uniform also sits next to a flag at half-mast.

On Sunday, Pennsylvania governor Josh Shapiro ordered that flags be flown at half-staff to honor the former fire chief, who he called a “hero” who died trying to protect his family.

“Corey was a girl dad,” Shapiro said at a press conference.

“Corey was a firefighter. Corey went to church every Sunday. Corey loved his community. Most especially, Corey loved his family.”

Shapiro described Comperatore as an “avid supporter of the former president” and said he was excited to be at Saturday’s rally.

“I asked Corey’s wife if it would be okay for me to share that we spoke. She said yes. She also asked that I share with all of you that Corey died a hero.

“Corey dove on his family to protect them last night at this rally.”

FINAL WORDS REVEALED

Comperatore’s widow, Helen, told the New York Post that his last words were shouting at his family to get down as he shielded them from the gunfire.

“He’s my hero,” Helen told the outlet.

“He just said, ‘Get down!’ That was the last thing he said.”

Comperatore leaves behind his wife and two daughters, who were all at the rally together.

“Me and the kids were all there as a family,” Helen told the Post.

“He was just excited. It was going to be a nice day with the family.”

But their plans quickly turned tragic.

“He was a very loving husband,” she added.

“He was a simple man but he put his wife and kids first all the time. I did nothing here. I didn’t lift a finger. He did everything.”

The couple was about to celebrate their 29th wedding anniversary, the Post reported.

GoFundMe organized for his family has raised over $4 million dollars as of Monday evening.
