Longridge cricketer Sophia Turner picked to play for Northern Superchargers in The Hundred

Local cricket star Sophia Turner has earned a contract to play in The Hundred, which features the best players from the UK and overseas.

Sophia, 21, currently plays her cricket for Northern Diamonds, a team representing the North East and Yorkshire, and is also registered as a Longridge Cricket Club player.

With eight city-based teams created specifically for The Hundred and made up of the best players in the UK and a maximum of four overseas stars, she will compete over a five week period starting on 23 July.

Sophia will be part of the Northern Superchargers team, based in Leeds. They will get their tournament underway against Trent Rockets Women on Friday, 26 July at Headingley in Leeds.

Every match of the tournament can be viewed on Sky Sports’ dedicated channel, Sky Sports The Hundred.

Sophia is also a sales administrator at estate agent Pendle Hill Properties, which is based in Longridge and Read and covers the Ribble Valley, Longridge, Preston, Burnley and Pendle.

Sophia’s dad Andrew Turner, who is managing director of Pendle Hill Properties, said: “We are absolutely delighted but not surprised that Sophia has been selected to take part in The Hundred. She is playing some incredible cricket and fully deserves this fantastic opportunity.
