The PUNCH: President Bola Tinubu on Thursday held emergency meetings with the All Progressives Congress state governors, prominent traditional rulers and Ulamas (Islamic religious scholars) at the Aso Rock Villa, Abuja as part of efforts by the government to ensure the planned hunger protests, slated for August 1 to 10, is averted nationwide.


Vanguard: President Bola Tinubu said yesterday no government will condone protests that would lead to destruction of lives and property. He also had separate meetings with governors elected on the platform of All Progressives Congress, APC, and traditional rulers at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, all in effort to stave off the protest


ThisDay: The President-general of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, passed on yesterday. He was aged 82.A statement signed by his first son, Jide Iwuanyanwu, said the octogenarian died after a brief illness.“The Iwuanyanwu family of Umuohii Atta, in Ikeduru local government area of Imo announces the demise of their patriarch, Engr Emmanuel Chukwuemeka Iwuanyanwu, the Ahaejiagamba Ndigbo.


The Nation: Security forces have put their men on red alert to forestall anarchy, which they said is the intention of promoters of the planned protest against economic crisis. In separate interactions yesterday, the Defence Headquarters and the secret police said categorically that the planned protest is not intended to be peaceful.


Daily Trust: President Bola Tinubu has admitted being part of different protests but without violence. The President said this when he received Letter of Credence from the newly appointed United States Ambassador to Nigeria, Mr. Richard Mills Jr. at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
