The National Secretary of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), Comrade Oginni Olaposi Sunday, has dismissed recent reports regarding the purported approval of changes to the party’s logo, flag, and constitution by the Independent Electoral Commission (INEC) as futile.

Oginni said the attempts by Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso and his Kwankwasia Movement to take over the NNPP with the alleged assistance of some INEC officials is destined to fail.

Oginni asserted that the scheme to hijack the NNPP by Kwankwaso has been fully exposed. He emphasized that the NNPP, a law-abiding political party founded 22 years ago by Dr. Boniface Okechukwu Aniebonam, believes in the sanctity of the judiciary.

He condemned INEC’s actions under the leadership of Prof. Mahmoud Yakubu, criticizing the commission’s approval of a group posing as the NNPP.

Oginni urged Prof. Yakubu and Kwankwaso to establish a new political party with their Kwankwasia name and logo rather than infringing on the intellectual property of the NNPP.

Oginni said, “We are happy to tell all Nigerians that the New Nigeria People’s Party is a law-abiding political party, founded 22 years ago by Dr Boniface Okechukwu Aniebonam.”

The NNPP believe in the sanctity of the Judiciary, stressing that the party leadership has challenged the illegal convention where the change of logo was illegally proposed, saying “It is our strong belief that the Judiciary will surely do its job speedily without any fear or favour.

“The act of impunity by INEC under the watch of Prof. Mamoud Yakubu is condemnable. The approval given by INEC to a group of Kwankwasia parading itself as NNPP is unacceptable. We challenge Prof. Mamoud Yakubu and Kwankwaso to register another political party with their Kwankwasia name and logo with red colours, rather stealing of the intellectual property of the NNPP.”

Oginni called on all NNPP members, both domestic and international, as well as supporters of democracy, to remain calm amidst these provocations. He expressed confidence that the judiciary would address the issue promptly and fairly.
