Olamide makes the Billboard World Albums Chart for a record-extending 7th time with Ikigai

YBNL boss Olamide has made it to the Billboard list again after his latest EP, Ikigai, debuted at #13 on the Billboard World Albums Chart.

This impressive feat extends his record for the second-highest number of chart entries by a Nigerian artist, trailing only the legendary Fela Kuti, who has nine.

Olamide’s previous chart-toppers include: “Street OT” (#4); “The Glory” (#6); “Lagos Nawa” (#6); “Unruly” (#10); “Carpe Diem” (#11); “UY Scuti” (#12). With the inclusion of Ikigai, it means his last three projects have made it to the Billboard World Albums Charts.

    The YBNL boss is regarded as one of the faces that redefined Nigerian music as we now know it. He dominated the scene in the early 2010s with the release of a studio album every year between 2011 and 2017 as well as his yearly “Olamide Live in Concert, OLIC.”

    He further entrenched himself in the hearts of music lovers by mentoring upcoming stars such as Adekunle Gold, Lil Kesh, Asake, and Fireboy. With this latest achievement, Olamide continues to solidify his legacy in the global music scene.

    Olamide’s Ikigai continues to top charts

    Despite hinting that his last studio album, Unruly, could be his last project, Olamide announced the release of Ikigai via his social media platform a few days before its release. Since then, Metaverse, Uptown Disco, and Hello Habibi; three songs off the 7-track EP have been in the top 5 on Apple Music’s Top 100 in Nigeria.

    Similarly, Morowore, a sample of Paul I.K Dairo’s Mo Wa Dupe has been adopted by the “streets” because of its prayerful nature. it has since gone viral on video-form social media platforms like TikTok.

    Basking in the immediate success of the EP, the YBNL boss further announced that his annual “Olamide Live In Concert (OLIC)” would return this December. The event which has attracted the biggest stars of the Nigerian entertainment industry was last held in 2018.
