Ogiame Atuwatse III, the Olu of Warri, has called for national unity and resilience as Nigeria navigates economic and social challenges, emphasising the importance of coming together as a nation, supporting leadership, and engaging in constructive dialogue to secure a brighter future for Nigeria.
In a recent press statement, the Olu of Warri addressed the nation, highlighting Nigeria’s historical resilience and the importance of unity in the face of persistent economic difficulties.
He acknowledged the country’s ability to overcome challenges that have caused other nations to falter, stating, “Nigerians are a truly blessed and resilient people. Several times in our sojourn, it has been made evident that other nations have fallen at things that Nigeria is miraculously able to regain its balance and carry on.”
The Olu of Warri expressed concern over the growing frustration among Nigerians due to economic hardships but urged the populace to support President Tinubu’s administration, describing it as providing “sacrificial leadership.” He emphasised the need for visible cuts in excessive government spending and a renewed commitment to the welfare of the people, suggesting that Nigeria can thrive even amid a global economic downturn.
He also called for a reassessment of Nigeria’s foundations and structures, free from ethnic and religious sentiments, to foster an atmosphere of peace and trust.
Ogiame Atuwatse III stated, “Our nation Nigeria is a house that does not require demolition but rather a collective reassessment of its foundations and the structures that sustain it. This reassessment must be devoid of ethnic or religious sentiments that may hinder our path in the right direction.”
Addressing the youth, whom he described as “the engine room of our country,” the Olu of Warri encouraged them to focus on constructive dialogue and cooperation as essential tools for achieving lasting change.
He urged the youth to channel their energies into building a brighter future, saying, “To the great and powerful engine room of Nigeria, my faithful constituents, I want to encourage you to channel your energies into building a brighter future for our country Nigeria. One where dialogue and cooperation pave the way for lasting change.”
The Olu of Warri also underscored the spiritual dimension of Nigeria’s journey, asserting that just actions would lead to the nation’s exaltation. He emphasised the importance of safeguarding the rights and well-being of all citizens, particularly minorities, as a way to align the nation spiritually and morally.
He then expressed hope for a future where Nigeria can achieve its potential as a prosperous and harmonious nation, stating, “Our resilience is the beacon of our hope.”
