A Preston pre-school has received a significant boost ahead of expansion plans as it received its first ‘Good’ rating from Ofsted.

The government inspector visited St Andrew’s Preschool Ashton in May and has now published its findings which rated it ‘good’ in all areas. The facility had previously been considered as requiring improvement and the new management has been praised for the turnaround.

Among Ofsted’s findings were a warm and welcoming environment, activities that spark children’s interests, and children who “behave well and are kind and considerate to their peers”.

The pre-school, at Tulketh Rd, will expand from September to offer childcare to ages 0-4, in line with the new government funded hours being introduced. Works will take place over the summer holidays to transform the new baby and preschool rooms and we will also be creating a new outdoor space with a sensory garden.

Welcoming the positive report, a spokesperson for the pre-school said: “Our recent Ofsted inspection was an overall positive experience. We are proud that our efforts and hard work have been recognised and that the report reflects what is important to us as a provision.

“The inspector observed that children are praised for their efforts and achievements which contributes significantly to their emotional wellbeing. Wellbeing and children’s mental health are at the forefront of our practice at St Andrew’s so we are particularly proud that this was mentioned.

“We incorporate daily wellness activities for the children such as yoga, happy mind breathing and listening to music alongside incorporating a range of nature based learning activities to cultivate a multi sensory educational environment.

“Our aim it to bring a calm and steady approach to teaching, using every day moments as learning opportunities.”
