A Preston City Centre church is set to host a series of summer concerts featuring some of the North West’s most gifted musicians.

St George’s Preston, located in Lune Street, kicks off the programme tomorrow (Saturday 20 July) at 12.15pm with a performance from soprano Ruth Anderson.

As a solo performer, Ruth has sung with many Choral societies performing works such as Poulenc’s
Gloria and Mozart’s Requiem.

Ruth continues to train with International Vocal Coach Michelle Wegwart both as a singer and as a teacher on her prestigious Train the Trainers programme.

She currently works as a Vocal Tutor to the girl choristers for Liverpool Metropolitan Cathedral, Classical Vocal Tutor at Merchant Taylor’s Girls School, and for Sefton Music Services.

  • Saturday 17 August: Grace Butcher (Saxophonist)

Each concert will feature an organ solo accompaniment from the St George’s Director of Music, Peter Kwater.

Peter became Organist and Director of Music at St George’s, in January of this year and is said to be enjoying the role and the challenges of playing the historic Father Willis organ.

Having studied organ, piano and harpsichord at the Royal Northern College of music before taking up the position of Organ Scholar at Liverpool’s Metropolitan Cathedral, Peter went on to establish his own teaching practice.

His accompaniment work is in great demand, having played in many European countries, including Germany, France, Switzerland and Italy.

Tickets are £10 on the door, which includes tea and coffee, with proceeds going to the refurbishment of the organ.
