A ROKU fan has shared a long list of apps that offer at least some free TV shows and movies.
The savvy money-saver decided to hunt down as many free streaming services as possible after being hit with a giant bill.

In a Reddit thread, the TV fan said that their streaming bills had “escalated from $135 to $204” – forcing them to act.
“Roku came as a recommendation from a friend, and I’ve been taken aback by the extensive array of channels and movies it offers,” the user explained.
“I’m in the process of compiling a list of channels that could be beneficial to others who are also new to Roku.”
Roku is available on a huge range of devices, including its own streaming boxes and sticks – as well as a vast array of TV models.
The user managed to find the following channels, which serve up varying amounts of free content legally:
- Tubi
- Fandango
- Pluto
- Sling
- Roku Channel
- Fawesome
- Plex
- Freevee
- Fubo
- Freetube
- MOTV
- TV Classics
- True Crime Network
- Fawesome Crime
- Filmrise
- Filmrise Comedy
- Cinema Box
- Redbox
- Movie Magic
The user admitted that some channels and content can’t be found without paying.
“I find myself missing shows such as King of the Hill, American Dad, The Cleveland Show, and Bob’s Burgers,” they said.
But they noted that “although it’s a slight hindrance, it’s still manageable.”
The user added: “It’s a modest start, but as I continue to explore Roku, I hope to expand this list.”
Sadly, Redbox – one of the services on the list – is shutting down.
But the bulk of the apps on the list are active and offer at least some free content for you to enjoy.

Tubi, for example, has a line-up of more than 260 live TV channels.
The Roku Channel – what you need to know
Here's the lowdown…
The Roku Channel is a streaming app that’s available on a range of devices.
It offers more than 400 live TV channels.
And it promises over 80,000 movies and TV shows on an on-demand basis.
Roku says that the app is available on:
- Roku streaming devices
- Compatible Samsung Smart TVs
- Compatible Amazon Fire TV devices
- TheRokuChannel.com website
- Roku mobile apps (iOS and Android)
Roku notes that the app is only available in the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom. It’s also available in Mexico, but only on Roku devices.
And it claims to have “the world’s largest content library” with more than 200,00 movies and TV episodes.
Plex is another great option: it began life as a personal Netflix that let you stream your own content to other devices, but now offers loads of ad-supported television.
It says it has a library of over 20,000 free moves and shows, with more than 600 channels.
Pluto TV offers over 250 live channels, as well as “thousands of on-demand movies.”
And Amazon Freevee has more than 15,000 movies and shows, as well as upwards of 400 TV channels.
Roku devices also come with The Roku Channel built in as standard.
This free service has over 400 channels, as well as more than 80,000 movies and shows.
The catch with most of these services is that you can watch for free if you’re willing to view commercials.
Some of these apps have paid services alongside their free offerings.
Sling TV, for instance, is a paid app – but downloading it gives you access to the no-cost Sling Freestream.
But if you hadn’t downloaded the app, you might not realize that there’s a huge library of content that doesn’t require any fees or even an account.
So if you want to cut your streaming bills down, it might be worth trying some of these free TV options.
