Where's hot in November in Europe
Wondering where's hot in Europe in November? It may be edging closer and closer to the winter season, but there's still plenty of sunshine to be found in Europe. Barcelona is my top data-backed pick for a November getaway but you could also check out Portugal's Algarve region or the Canary Islands for a sunny winter beach break.
1. Barcelona, Spain
Average November temperature: 13°C
While most of Europe has started to cool down by November, there are a few places (especially in the south) that still offer sunshine and warmer temperatures. One city that fits the bill is Barcelona in Spain's Catalonia region.
Its easy access from the UK makes it a good option for a quick weekend away. What's more, average return flight prices from London sit at around £100, meaning it's pretty gentle on your wallet, too.
While you probably won't be able to hit the beach in November, the temperatures (which can reach an average high of 17°C) are perfect for sightseeing. Stroll past Barcelona's architectural marvels, enjoy a picnic in the enchanting Park Guell or venture down to the seafront for an al fresco drink with ocean vistas. If you do get some rain, there are plenty of indoor attractions to choose between - from the bustling La Boqueria Market to the majestic Sagrada Familia cathedral.
Where's hot in November in the rest of the world
Outside of Europe, there's no shortage of hot destinations destinations in November. For many countries, the month is the perfect sweet spot where the weather is warm, rainfall is low and the beaches are quiet. From relaxed resort towns to buzzing party capitals, these are my top picks.
2. Dubai
- Average December temperature: 24°C
When considering warm countries in November, Dubai is a classic choice. Sitting on the very trendy Persian Gulf, its unparalleled coastline is packed with luxurious hotels and vast resorts boasting pristine beaches. The temperatures in Dubai in November are hot but not uncomfortable, with the average sitting at around 24°C. This makes it the ideal month to visit for both relaxation and sightseeing.
It's a city that's managed to fuse the traditional and modern with intoxicating results. In Old Dubai, you’ll find that the smells of spices permeate the air from the local souks. Venture into the city centre and you’ll find space-age shopping centres and even the tallest building in the world: the Burj Khalifa.
Top tip: if you’ve always wanted to do a desert safari, November is a good time. The nights are quite mild, so all you'll need is a cardigan.
3. Cancun, Mexico
Average December temperature: 26°C
For guaranteed sunshine, swimming in crystal-clear waters and unlimited margaritas, Cancun is the place to be. Mexico is one of the hottest places to go in November - particularly if you head for its Caribbean coastline where idyllic Cancun is nestled.
November marks the very end of the Caribbean hurricane season, so it's a good time to go if you'd rather not experience extreme weather. What's more, if you're hoping to book a last-minute sun getaway without splashing too much cash, you'll likely be able to bag a decent deal on flights. In fact, average return flights sit at under £700 in November.
When it comes to accommodation, Cancun's Hotel Zone is the place to be for luxury resorts and easy access to the sand. Or, if you're after something a little more secluded, consider hopping across the water to Isla Mujeres (the Island of Women). Its powder-soft North Beach is among the best beaches in the world, plus you can visit an ancient Mayan temple on the island's south coast.
4. Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia
Average December temperature: 27°C
November marks the very beginning of Malaysia's dry season, making it a great month to visit its vibrant capital, Kuala Lumpur. This thriving city has so much to offer visitors - no matter if you're backpacking on a budget or want a more luxurious experience.
Speaking of luxury, you'll be able to afford to stay somewhere pretty swish in Kuala Lumpur. That's because the average hotel prices sit at just a measly £33 per night. Eating out is also typically very friendly on the wallet - especially if you make the rounds of the city's incredible food markets.
When it comes to sightseeing in Kuala Lumpur, there's a few must-sees. This includes the iconic Petronas Twin Towers and the ornate King's Palace. Just make sure you carry an umbrella with you in case of an unexpected shower!
5. Taipei City, Taipei
Average December temperature: 20°C
Another country that's hot in November is Taiwan. In fact, the month is considered the best time to visit its capital, Taipei City, thanks to very low rainfall and lovely warm temperatures of 20°C+.
Never considered Taipei for a city break before? Think again. This metropolis sits on the island's north coast and it offers up a true melting pot of culture, history and cuisine. Dry weather in November makes sightseeing in Taipei City a pleasure, with highlights being the Fo Guang Shan Monastery (with its huge golden Buddha statue) and the Taipei 101 Observatory.
It's also an ideal time of year to visit nearby Taroko Gorge National Park for a breathtaking hike. Back in the city, why not venture up Elephant Mountain for spectacular city skyline views? Sunset is one of the best times to go - just make sure you wear insect repellent for any creepy crawlies hiding in the undergrowth.
And once the sun's gone down? Make your way to Shilin Night Market where you'll find no shortage of delicious street food vendors.
6. Sydney, Australia
Average December temperature: 19°C
Australia is easily one of the hottest countries to visit in November. It marks the last month of Sydney's spring season and is arguably one of the best times to plan a trip. That's partly down to the manageable day time temperatures which make exploring the great outdoors - both in the city and beyond - much more comfortable.
You can also expect fewer crowds and better deals on accommodation than you might see in December when peak holiday season hits. In fact, according to KAYAK data, hotels are an average of £123 per night in November, meaning you'll have more money to spend on thrilling city experiences like catching a show at the iconic Sydney Opera House or visiting a local wildlife park to say hello to the resident koalas.
Temperatures can peak in the mid 20s in November, so you can definitely look forward to a few beach days. Bondi Beach is the obvious pick but you'll also have a lovely time at Manly Beach: the home of Australia's very first surfing contest in the 1960s.
7. New Orleans, USA
Average December temperature: 16°C
If you've always wanted to visit the Deep South, November could be your time to go. This is especially true later in the month once the threat of Atlantic hurricanes have passed. The vibrant city of New Orleans also has a much more pleasant climate for exploring at this time of year than during the summer, with daily temperatures peaking at a respectable 22°C.
The fabulous French Quarter, with its colourful colonial architecture and eclectic mix of culture, should be your first calling point. You could also delve deeper into the city's Creole heritage at the Backstreet Cultural Museum which houses dozens of elaborately decorated Mardi Gras masks. The New Orleans Museum of Art is well-worth the entrance fee, too. In the evenings, head for Frenchman Street to listen to live jazz at the atmospheric Spotted Cat Music Club.
And if you have a sunny, dry day during your holiday? Grab a picnic and venture into Crescent Park which borders the banks of the monumental Mississippi River.
8. Las Vegas, USA
Average December temperature: 14°C
So-called Sin City is undeniably a bucket list destination. Thanks to its desert location, Las Vegas can get pretty hot (too hot!) in the summer months. That's why a November trip is a much better idea if you want heat but not too much of it. You'll enjoy average high temperatures of 19°C, plus you'll find decent hotel deals for around £130 a night.
There's more to Vegas than casinos, too (although you'll have plenty of options if you feel like getting lucky at the card tables). One massive draw of visiting this desert oasis is its incredible shows which range from fantastical Cirque de Soleil performances to amazing gigs from world-class singers. And let's not forget about the city's proximity to one of the USA's most iconic natural wonders: the Grand Canyon National Park.
9. Osaka, Japan
Average December temperature: 14°C
If Japan's been on your bucket list forever, November could be the ideal time to go. While it's not the hottest month of the year by any means, it's much warmer than most of Europe - with average highs hitting upwards of 18°C in the city of Osaka.
You'll find this incredible metropolis on the island of Honshu and it's a great place to base yourself for a Japanese adventure. The city itself offers a unique blend of history, culture and natural beauty. Families will love visiting Universal Studios by Osaka's waterfront, while the iconic Osaka Castle is another highlight. You'll also find Osaka's parks are a riot of autumnal colours in November, making them ideal places for long strolls.
There's plenty of potential day trip options from Osaka, too. Why not catch a train to neighbouring Kyoto to visit its tranquil temples and explore the extremely photogenic Arashiyama Bamboo Forest? Or just south of Osaka is the Yoshino Kumano National Park where you can hike through dramatic gorges and soak in local hot springs known as onsen.
Where's hot and cheap in November
One of the best things about booking a holiday to a hot country in November is fewer crowds. Prices also tend to drop, so you can get far more bang for your buck. My top picks for a hot and cheap holiday in November? Barcelona if you're keen to stick to Europe. Or Kuala Lumpur for a balmy Asian city break where hotels can be as little as £33 per night.
Planning ahead for the winter? Soak up some vitamin D in one of the hottest countries to visit in December, January and February.
