Kimberly Williams-Paisley took to Instagram yesterday to share that she had major surgery after suffering an incident two years ago.
The 90s actress started her post by saying she’s “been going through a thing.
“Almost two years ago I lost my voice on stage at my Alzheimer’s event in Nashville.
“It was embarrassing & scary & it never quite came back,” she continued.
She detailed that the last couple of years have been challenging; however, doctors ultimately diagnosed her with laryngeal nerve damage.
After being diagnosed, Kimberly shared that she’s received surgery from Vanderbilt Health in Tennessee.
She revealed she was awake for “the three hour laryngoplasty to plump up my paralyzed vocal cord so it hits the other one.
“I watched a lot of it on a video screen above my head as it happened and all I can say is MODERN MEDICINE IS MIRACULOUS.”
In addition to her confession, the actress also shared a picture of her scar just under her neck.
“I have a badass scar that’s smiling at me across my neck,” she shared.
Kimberly made light of the situation by sharing artwork her brother made from her scar.
Her brother made the incision look like a person drinking out of a straw.
‘TRAPPED IN MY BODY’
Speaking on what it’s been like dealing with a damaged laryngeal nerve, the According to Jim star said she felt “too vulnerable” to talk about her condition.
“I haven’t wanted to share about this much until now because it felt too vulnerable,” she shared in her Instagram post.
“I took for granted my ability to ‘use my voice’ before—for my career, for a good cause, for a timely joke, for SELF-EXPRESSION, for a loud dinner party.
“Instead, I’ve been the quietest in the room.
“I’ve felt meek. New people I’ve met thought I was a shy or reserved person. I’ve felt trapped in my body.”
Kimberly went on to say that after going through the motions of dealing with her diagnosis, the 90s star now feels empowered.
“In the last two years, I’ve found power in using my voice in new ways. I’ve healed old emotional wounds.
New people I’ve met thought I was a shy or reserved person. I’ve felt trapped in my body.

I’ve learned the strength & beauty of silence. I’ve become a serious meditator.
I’m deadlifting over a hundred pounds. I’m taking better care of my body,” she continued.
Since sharing her post, fans and friends have rushed to the comment section to uplift Kimberly.
“You are my hero! Through all of this you have taught me about holding your power without raising your voice, without throwing your fist in the air, but by observing and embracing what life hands you with grace and determination,” wrote singer Sheryl Crow.
“You are extraordinary and brave and oh so funny during a most difficult time,” said one fan.
“You are so brave!!” exclaimed another.
Actress and sister to Kimberly, Ashley Williams, detailed being there for the actress as she dealt with her condition.
“I have witnessed first hand the daily strength of my sister through this journey and you all: WHAT. A SHOW. I am right in the front row, clapping and screaming with SO MUCH LOVE. BRAVO MY KIMMY,” the How I Met Your Mother actress wrote.
