Nigerian music acts, Ayra Starr, Adekunle Gold alongside rapper Ladipoe, are stepping into the acting spotlight with their debut performances in Jade Osiberu’s much-anticipated film, Christmas in Lagos. The acclaimed filmmaker and founder of Greoh Studios took to Instagram on Wednesday, August 28, to unveil a sneak peek of the star-studded project, describing it as “beautiful” and announcing its exclusive premiere on Prime Video this December.
Christmas in Lagos is set against the vibrant backdrop of Lagos during the festive season and intertwines multiple storylines. The plot centers around Fiyin, who, reeling from a devastating breakup, becomes convinced that her best friend Elo is her true soulmate. However, her world turns upside down when Elo returns from New York with plans to propose to his secret girlfriend, Yagazie.
The film also explores the life of 59-year-old Gbemi, who is torn between her long-term boyfriend and a former lover, and follows London-born Ivie, who arrives in Lagos seeking the ultimate “Detty December” experience, only to unexpectedly fall for Ajani.
The film boasts an impressive Nollywood cast including Shaffy Bello, Wale Ojo, Richard Mofe-Damijo, Shalom C. Obiago, Teniola Aladese, Angel Anosike, Folu Storms, and singer Waje.
Osiberu praised Ayra Starr for her role, noting, “For me, Ayra Starr represents what it means to be young, female, daring, brave, and fearless — just being yourself.”
The film’s soundtrack is set to feature tracks from music legends Flavour, D’banj, and King Sunny Ade, adding an extra layer of star power to the project.
Jade Osiberu, known for her successful Nollywood films such as Isoken (2017), Sugar Rush (2019), Brotherhood (2022), and Gangs of Lagos, was recently honored as one of the “40 Most Powerful Women in International Film” earlier this year.
