BILL Belichick has identified the potential issue that could prevent the Kansas City Chiefs from completing an unprecedented three-peat.

Prior to the Chiefs, Belichick‘s New England Patriots were the last team to win three consecutive Super Bowls.

The Patriots won in 2003 and 2004, but their three-peat attempt was thwarted by the Denver Broncos in the divisional playoffs in 2005.

Appearing on the Pat McAfee Show, the eight-time Super Bowl champion was keen to give Chiefs coach Andy Reid credit – but pointed out where they could falter during the upcoming season.

“I think the bigger issues are going to be on defense,’ Belichick said.

“Look, they played very well in the playoffs, so that’s where it counts and that’s the most important thing.

“But overall as a team, run defense, turnovers – I think that’s an area they’re going to want to improve in.”

Belichick then claimed that Patrick Mahomes, Travis Kelce and Co are as well placed as any team in history to achieve the three-peat.

“I just think this third year, for it all to fall into place three years in a row is tough,” he went on.

“If anybody can do it, it’s probably Kansas City, but it won’t be easy.”

Belichick then assessed Reid’s chances of solving the Chiefs potential defensive issues.

“They’re gonna have some tough opponents through the course of the season and playoffs,’ he claimed.

“But Andy will have them ready to go. I think they’ll maybe score more than they did last year, we’ll see if they can hold up defensively.”

Reid, 66, could look to chase down a pair of Belichick’s coaching records.

The former Patriots icon achieved 302 regular season wins and a further 31 in the playoffs.

Chiefs coach Reid, meanwhile, has so far earned 258 regular season wins and a 26 in playoff games.

Belichick coached the Patriots between 2000 and 2023.

With Tom Brady in his team for 19 years of his tenure, he earned six championships.

These came in addition to two Super Bowls he won as an assistant with the New York Giants.

Belichick ended his legendary run in New England back in January, when he was sensationally fired.

He was subsequently interviewed by the Atlanta Falcons for the position vacated by Arthur Smith.

But Raheem Morris was given the head coaching gig instead.
