Super Eagles of Nigeria winger, Samuel Chukwueze, has said if money was a priority for him, he would have moved to Saudi Arabia last summer.
Following the conclusion of the 2022-2023 season, Chukwueze garnered interest from several clubs in the Saudi Pro League. Despite persistent efforts from his agent, the 25-year-old Nigeria international rejected the lucrative offer.
Instead, he moved significantly to join Serie A giants AC Milan, bidding farewell to his five-year tenure with La Liga club, Villarreal.
In an interview with Football Italia, Chukwueze explained, “If money were a problem, I would have signed in Saudi Arabia. They wanted me a year ago. My mind was set only on Milan.
“My agent approached me about the financial aspect, but I made it clear that I had no intention of moving elsewhere.”
On his future aspiration as a footballer, Chukwueze added, “The most important thing now is to believe in myself; I’m still young, I want to make it, I need to stay in Europe.”
Throughout the previous season, Chukwueze found the back of the net once in 24 league appearances for AC Milan. But with his improved form during Milan’s pre-season friendlies, the Nigerian winger is expected to perform better at the club in the forthcoming season.
