Chelsea’s new coach, Enzo Maresca, has left out Raheem Sterling from his squad again ahead of the club’s first leg of their Europa Conference League play-off against Servette.

Note that this is the second time in a row coach Maresca left out Raheem Sterling from his squad even though the forward is not injured.

Recall that the 29-year-old English forward didn’t make Chelsea’s squad who suffered a 2-0 defeat at the hands of Manchester City on Sunday, August 18.

Before Sunday’s defeat by City, Sterling’s representatives expressed a desire for “clarity” regarding the player’s future at the club.

Since joining Chelsea from Manchester City for £50 million in July 2022, Raheem Sterling has made 81 appearances for the West London club.

More so, defenders Ben Chilwell, Wesley Fofana, and Tosin Adarabioyo were not included in Chelsea’s submitted squad for the Conference League match at Stamford Bridge.

This comes as Chelsea have spent around £185 million on 11 signings this summer, which has resulted in a squad of over 40 senior players under manager Enzo Maresca.

Following the City game, Maresca expressed his desire to have Sterling at Chelsea but acknowledged the challenge of finding enough playing time for all of the club’s players.

The first leg of Chelsea’s tie with Servette is set to take place at Stamford Bridge on Thursday at 8 p.m., with the second leg scheduled for August 29th in Switzerland.
