Haslam Park cordoned off for planned explosion of confiscated items

There was concern in a Preston park this morning after a park, including the play area, was evacuated and cordoned off.

Police were at Haslam Park in Ashton-on-Ribble along with explosive ordnance disposal teams to carry out a controlled – and planned – explosion.

The items that were disposed of were those confiscated during searches at events such as concerts, demonstrations or football matches, police said.

Witnesses reported that the play area had been evacuated during the disposal work and residents expressed some concern over what had occurred.
