Controversial crossdresser Bobrisky, born Idris Okuneye, was released from the Kirikiri Correctional Center on Monday morning.
Marking her return, the social media celebrity posted, “I am back!” on her social media account on X.
Why Bobrisky went to prison
The socialite had been sentenced to six months in prison on April 12 by Justice Abimbola Awogboro of the Lagos High Court for abusing the naira.
Four of the charges against her were related to naira abuse, while the remaining two counts involved alleged money laundering.
She pleaded guilty to the first four counts of naira abuse. The presiding judge struck out the money laundering charges following a request from the EFCC’s counsel.
In her verdict, Justice Awogboro ruled that the sentence was without the option of a fine and that the jail term would commence from March 24, the day of her arrest.
Bobrisky’s release marks the end of her brief imprisonment and her return to social media activity where she has acquired a fair amount of followers and fans.
Following the initial post, she posted another video of herself with the caption, “Mummy of Lagos is back.” The video shows her in front of a creative crew, making people wonder if she was ever in jail. “Are you sure she was in prison?? The glow is really massive,” a user wrote.
