The demolition of Preston’s Old Tram Bridge began on Tuesday (20 August) with visual pieces of the structure now removed.
It is due to be completed by mid-September ahead of the construction of the long-awaited, and much-campaigned for replacement.
Over the last six months, work has taken place to allow for access, including the felling of trees.

The replacement of the bridge is delivered by Preston City Council using part of its £20million grant awarded by the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government (MHCLG), with an additional £1million from Lancashire County Council.
However, there are mixed emotions as the work finally takes place.
Glenn Cookson, chair of Friends of the Old Tramroad Bridge said it was ‘sad’ to see the current bridge go but ‘great that the bridge will live on in a new form.’
